I film d’azione non piacciono a tutti, spesso anzi sono i più massacrati dalla critica, tuttavia nel vasto mondo cinematografico a volte si riesce a individuare qualche perla rara, realizzata con così tanta passione da far innamorare lo spettatore. Questo è il caso di “Black Lotus”.
“Black Lotus” di Todor Chapkanov non regala nulla di nuovo agli action-movie, ma dimostra di essere stato curato nei minimi particolari in quelli che sono i fondamenti del genere. Non è raro che un film d’azione venga prodotto in modo raffazzonato, senza trasmettere passione. Questo film, fortunatamente, riesce a distinguersi grazie ad un cast preparatissimo, capace di recitare in modo realistico nelle scene più violente. Sicuramente è azzeccata la scelta di affidarsi a due esperti artisti marziali come Rico Verhoeven (kickboxer olandese, Campione dei Pesi Massimi della federazione di Singapore Glory) e Frank Grillo (il volto di Crossbones nei film Marvel). Tutto il cast comunque risulta all’altezza della situazione, deliziando il pubblico con combattimenti più che realistici.
Anche la trama, seppur molto semplice e simile ad altri film, permette una rapida immedesimazione e trasporta senza difficoltà chi guarda: un ex agente delle forze speciali intraprende una guerra individuale per le strade di Amsterdam per salvare la figlia del suo amico dal sindacato criminale locale.

“BLACK LOTUS”: WHEN THE FIGHTS BECOME ART
Not everyone likes action films, often they are the most massacred by critics, however in the vast cinematic world sometimes you can spot some rare pearl, made with so much passion to make the viewer fall in love. This is the case of “Black Lotus”.
“Black Lotus” by Todor Chapkanov does not give anything new to the action-movies, but proves to have been taken care of in the smallest detail in what are the fundamentals of the genre. It is not uncommon for an action film to be produced in a botched manner, without conveying passion. This film, fortunately, can stand out thanks to a highly trained cast, able to act realistically in the most violent scenes. It’s definitely the right choice to rely on two experienced martial artists such as Rico Verhoeven (Dutch kickboxer, Singapore Glory Heavyweight Champion) and Frank Grillo (the face of Crossbones in Marvel movies). However, the entire cast is up to the task, delighting the audience with more than realistic fights.
Even the plot, although very simple and similar to other films, allows a quick identification and transports without difficulty the viewer: a former special forces agent undertakes an individual war on the streets of Amsterdam to save his friend’s daughter from the local criminal syndicate.
