La nota libreria di Londra Italian Bookshop chiude i battenti. Dopo anni di attività una delle librerie più in vista della City saluta i suoi tanti amici con un messaggio di Ornella Tarantola.
Ornella Tarantola è arrivata a Londra quando aveva 38 anni. Tutti la ricordano per aver rilevato l’Italian Bookshop di Hampstead, trasformandolo in un punto di riferimento culturale per gli Italiani e non solo. Nel tempo l’Italian Bookshop si è trasferito più volte, passando da Piccadilly a South Kensington, dove ora condivide i suoi spazzi con lo European Bookshop al 123 di Gloucester Road. Nel corso degli anni la libreria ha portato a Londra i principali autori Italiani a presentare i loro libri, collaborando spesso agli eventi (tra cui il concorso letterario Match Point) della Comunità Italiana e delle sue Istituzioni su suolo Britannico.
Ornella ha voluto salutare così tutti quanti: “Ciao a tutti e tutte. Purtroppo oggi è l’ultimo giorno dell’Italian Bookshop (e anche European Bookshop). Come sapete ho sempre gettato il cuore oltre l’ostacolo. […] Io resterò nel cuore sempre un’indomita libraia e mi rimetterò in pista per l’ennesima volta. Confido in voi, nel vostro sostegno, che c’è da sempre. […] Inutile dirvi quanto sono triste, ma Londra mi ha sempre voluto bene per cui confido in nuovi raggi di sole“.
Anche noi di Complitaly vogliamo ricordare la passione di Ornella per il suo lavoro e per i libri. Grazie a Italian Bookshop a Londra c’è sempre stato profumo di casa. La libreria e i suoi eventi sono stati la casa itinerante di molti Italiani e non. E’ stato per noi un onore incrociare il nostro cammino con quello di Ornella e di Italian Bookshop e siamo certi che accadrà nuovamente.

LONDON: THE ITALIAN BOOKSHOP CLOSES
The famous London bookstore Italian Bookshop closes its doors. After years of activity one of the most prominent bookshops in the City greets his many friends with a message from Ornella Tarantola.
Ornella Tarantola arrived in London when she was 38. Everyone remembers her for having taken over the Italian Bookshop of Hampstead, transforming it in a cultural point of reference for the Italians and not only. Over time, the Italian Bookshop has moved from Piccadilly to South Kensington, where it now shares its space with the European Bookshop at 123 Gloucester Road. Over the years the bookstore has brought the main Italian authors to London to present their books, often collaborating at events (including the literary competition Match Point) of the Italian Community and its institutions on British soil.
Ornella wanted to greet everyone: “Hello everyone and all. Unfortunately today is the last day of the Italian Bookshop (and also European Bookshop). As you know I have always thrown my heart over the obstacle. […] I will always remain in my heart an indomitable librarian and I will get back on track for the umpteenth time. I trust in you, in your support, which has always been there. […] Needless to say how sad I am, but London has always loved me so I trust in new rays of sunshine“.
We at Complitaly want to remember Ornella’s passion for his work and for books. Thanks to Italian Bookshop in London there has always been the scent of home. The bookstore and its events have been the traveling home of many Italians and not. It was an honor for us to cross our path with that of Ornella and Italian Bookshop and we are sure that it will happen again.
